As previously reported a new industry-led group has been established to work with government to improve product safety recalls in the UK.
The Recall Review Steering Group was set up following the publication of the independent review of the UK’s product recall system by consumer campaigner Lynn Faulds Wood and the government’s response to it.
The group is made up of organisations that contributed to the review, with a broad range of expertise representing all sectors of the supply chain including manufacturing, retail, legal, technical, consumer safety and market surveillance as follows:
- British Retail Consortium
- Baker & McKenzie
- British Toy & Hobby Association
- Electrical Safety First
- Chief Fire Officers’ Association
- Chartered Trading Standards Institute
- Association of Manufacturers of Domestic Appliances
- Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders
- Brunel University
The first meeting of the Group took place at BIS on 4 May with the second on 14 July. The Group has agreed to appoint a rolling chair and will publish its terms of reference in due course, together with developing a work plan for implementing the recommendations from the independent review
