Risk
Hotpoint is recalling a number of Hotpoint Quadrio Fridge Freezers due to an issue with the wiring. A mains cable in the fridge freezer can short circuit when the door is opened potentially causing a flash or bang as the circuit shorts out.
Whilst Hotpoint accept that this may be alarming to consumers they say it is not a safety issue and there is no risk of an electric shock from touching the handles or any of the metal parts of the fridge freezer as the wire that shorts out is completely isolated from the rest of the fridge.
Whilst Hotpoint say there is no safety issue they have re-stated that these fridge freezers should be turned off at the mains before cleaning.
