Lesley Rudd, Chief Executive of Electrical Safety First commented: “We welcome the Social Housing (Regulation) Bill. The Bill extends mandatory electrical safety checks to the social rented sector in England, adopting the key recommendation from our Social Housing Paper. Whilst we welcome the Government’s consultation on electrical safety in social housing, recent events regarding Sandwell Council’s housing stock highlights that there are social tenants currently being placed at risk every day. The Bill must, therefore, be passed without delay, the Regulator of Social Housing must be given sufficient powers to act, and the regulations should cover both installations and appliance testing.”
