Commenting on the Public Accounts Committee Product Safety Report, Lesley Rudd Chief Executive of Electrical Safety First said:
“The absence of vital laws making online marketplaces responsible for products sold via their sites presents one of the biggest risks to product safety in the UK. An unregulated marketplace for electrical goods in combination with enforcement body cuts and an increase in online shopping is contributing to the perfect storm, meaning dangerous products are more likely to end up in people’s homes. It is time the Government finally addressed this problem. Addressing electrical safety now is imperative as we are swiftly moving into a world more reliant on electricity than ever before.
Electrical Safety First will continue to work with the OPSS and other bodies to help tackle the dangers facing consumers in their homes.”
