Electrical Safety First's response to the Queens Speech and the Draft Online Safety Bill

Commenting in response to the Queens Speech and the Draft Online Safety Bill, Lesley Rudd, Chief Executive at Electrical Safety First said: “We welcome the additional scrutiny that will be given to the Draft Online Safety Bill. Consumers must be legally protected from online harms – whether that is from bullying or from dangerous products being sold online. We have seen an acceleration in the use of online platforms during the pandemic – and any new legislation must be given the right consideration to make sure that it is fit for purpose to protect consumers. We hope Government will use this opportunity to include better regulation of online marketplaces in this Bill, so that consumers are not unwittingly putting themselves at harm by purchasing unsafe electrical products.”
