After a periodic inspection of the electrical installation in your home, the electrician will issue an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). We recommend that this is carried out every ten years. However, if you have a privately rented property in England or Scotland, the landlord is legally required to have an inspection carried out every five years*.
We also recommend that you have an EICR carried out if you are looking to buy a property, to give you the peace of mind that the electrics are safe.
A Domestic Electrical Installation Certificate covers new installation work, a rewire or a new build - and our recommendation here would be to have this carried out every ten years unless, as explained above, your property is being used for private renting, in which case it should be followed up with a periodic inspection.
* This will also be a legal requirement in Wales from July 2022.
